Ed Markey has barely been in office as Massachusetts’ junior Senator, since winning a special election to fill the seat vacated by John Kerry who became Obama’s US Secretary of State. However, that did not stop him from writing to the Russian ambassador.

Many members of international athletic delegations, their families, spectators, and support staff proudly identify as members of the LGBT community. I believe it is essential for them to both feel and be safe from arrest, detention, and other forms of discrimination while in Russia.”
