Modern Pastry

Italian PastryBoston and many of the surrounding towns have no shortage of fantastic Italian pastry shops with extremely loyal customers who all swear by their favorite.  While the most famous Italian pastry shop in the area is Mikes on Hanover Street, I’ve always been partial to the Modern Pastry at 257 Hanover Street.

Last week I made a visit to the Modern and noticed that their neighbor Piccolo Venezia had closed and the Modern is expanding into the space, hooray.  Modern Pastry has operated out of the same, tiny location for more than 80 years so I can hardly wait to see how their expansion will help accommodate them and their many loyal patrons of which I am a proud member.

  1. Good job promoting Modern over Mike’s… Anyone who KNOWS true cannoli knows Mike’s is a fraud… too many weird flavors and a fried shell! We actually prefer Maria’s, (where real Italians go) but I shouldn’t say that too loudly because I don’t want the word to get out.

  2. Piccolo Venezia closed at the end of September. Good basic food – I understand the owners also own the building and the closure was for retirement after none of their children wanted to take over the family business. I still miss the table tops with the quarters shellacked to the top – many, many attempted to pick up the lose change!

  3. sad to hear that Piccolo Venezia closed though…

  4. I want some right now.
