Am I looking for an excuse to share this video I created after the 2012 Santa Speedo Run here in Boston? Perhaps, but I still can’t believe this took place six months ago today. Feel free to watch this light hearted and fun video of Bostonians running down the now infamous Boylston Street.
I wanted to thank these bloggers and everyone else who shared the 2012 Boston Santa Speedo video I posted on YouTube earlier this week. I love this event and look forward to it each year.
This past Saturday was Boston’s annual Santa Speedo Run. Despite the rain forecast and the steady drizzle Saturday morning, more than 700 men and women braved the elements and ran through Back Bay in little more than a speedo and sneakers.
Every year the Boston LGBT community shows up but this year’s run resembled a Pride event. From the “pre-partying” at homes in Back Bay to the impromptu dance party on Boylston that broke out as runners congregated after the run – the city on Saturday afternoon had a Pride-esque feeling that warmed my heart even if I couldn’t quite feel my toes by the time I left the Back Bay.
Below is my annual video paying tribute to those who ran – enjoy.
Liked the video? Here is the 2011 video and 2010 video from the Boston Santa Speedo Run.
Today, Boston hosted the 12th Annual Santa Speedo Run. Inspite of the threat of rain, hundreds came out to run through the Back Bay. Above is a photograph of the top fundraising team Straight As A Candy Cane. These guys raised nearly $20,000 for this year’s beneficiary, The Play Ball Foundation. Check back later for more photos from today’s run.
One week from today Boston will host the 13th annual Santa Speedo Run through the Back Bay; spectators, mark your calendars; runners take note of the forecast and pray for warm temperatures.
Earlier this month I post my video from the 2011 run, below is a video from the Santa Speedo Run from 2010. Can’t make it to Boylston Street next Saturday? No worries, I’ll be there snapping photographs and chatting with runners to tell you all about it.
Sponsor Sergio for this year’s Santa Speedo Run
I am currently visiting Sergio’s family in hot and humid Brazil where speedos are common but the cold is a distant memory. While we are away, I wanted to give Sergio a plug since he is participating in the Santa Speedo Run next month and needs to do some fundraising.
A modest donation of $10 or $25 to help him raise money for this year’s charity, Play Ball Foundation, would be greatly appreciated by him.

One month from today Boston will host the 13th annual Santa Speedo Run. This year the local beneficiary will be Play Ball Foundation.
Over the years, this hilarious and fun tradition has spread to other cities so check and see if a similar event will be taking place in your hometown.
The run starts at 1pm on Boylston Street near the Prudential Mall so arrive early to cheer runners who will be in speedos running to raise money for the Play Ball Foundation. Never been or won’t be able to attend? Here is a video from last year.
Registration to this year’s Santa Speedo Run opens tomorrow. Registration will likely close within just a few hours so make sure to visit the Santa Speedo Run website to get the details. This year’s run will take place on Saturday, December 8th.
Boston’s Santa Speedo Run, which took place this past Saturday is always one of my favorite posts and this year it proved to be a favorite of gay bloggers as well. Thank you to Wicked Gay Blog, DanNation, and Back2Stonewall for quickly reposting the video over the weekend.
Last night I found out that Towleroad which had posted my 2010 video gave me a shout out as well and posted the Santa Speedo Run video, causing my humble blog to see its traffic nearly triple in traffic.
Thank you to WGB, DanNation, Back2Stonewall and Towleroad. If you happen to see other bloggers posting this video, please let me know in the comments section so I may send them a quick thank you.
The weather in Boston was in the low 40s and windy when the 12th Annual Santa Speedo Run started. This annual tradition, brings hundreds of men and women into Back Bay to run in a variety of speedos and boxers, raising money for a local charity.
This year’s run was a bit more chaotic than in past years with the Boston Police Dept. showing up late to the party. Without a police presence, crowds lining the streets forced the normally busy Boylston Street to one lane and Newbury Street was jammed resulting in less time for runners to pose and play both before and after the run. However, I hope you enjoy this year’s video. I was down one photographer as Sergio decided to participate. Do you see him?
Today’s run will raise approximately $250,000 which will go to benefit the Play Ball Foundation. To learn more about this year’s charity and the Santa Speedo Run, visit their website ssrunners.org.
The Santa Speedo Run is Saturday, December 10th at 1PM on Boylston Street in the Back Bay. Be sure to enjoy this holiday tradition which started here in Boston back in 2000 and has since spread to cities all over the world. I’ll be posting photos and tweeting from the event.
The much talked about Boston Santa Speedo Run will take place one week from today. This fun(ny) 1-mile run through Boston’s trendy Back Bay neighborhood in December earns a lot of laughs for both spectators and runners. It has also become an unofficial tradition of yours truly to go down and watch these crazy runners warm up and run down Boylston Street so be sure to check back late Saturday afternoon after I post my 2011 video of the Santa Speedo Run. In the interim, check out the video I created from last year’s run.
The 2011 charity benefiting from the funds raised in this years race will be Play Ball foundation. If you’d like to learn more about this annual run which is now replicated in cities across the US and Canada, you can visit here.
