Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague to see if you can figure it out together.
I’ll confirm answers later in the day so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance.
This weeks riddle:
Solve this mathematical equation.
9 = 72
8 = 56
7 = 42
5 = 20
3 = ?
9*9-9=72, 8*8-8=56, 7*7-7=42, 6*6-6=30, 5*5-5=20, 4*4-4=12, 3*3-3=6

Opps…the answer is 3=6, I put the multiplier.
7×6= 42
6×5= 30
5×4= 20
4×3= 12
3×2=6
2×1=2

The algebraic stuff kicked in there. I saw the pattern but the solution ah well.

8 = 56 (8×8)-8
7 = 42 (7×7)-7
5 = 20 (5×5)-5
3 = 6 (3×3)-3

I really struggled with this riddle. However what I was told was that you multiply each number by one less (e.g. 9×8 = 72; 8×7 = 56) so 3×2 = 6.
Much thanks Tony.

Would it be 6? The pattern seems to be the larger number divided by smaller equals next smaller number in sequence. The small number after 3 would be 2 so 6 divided by 3 would be 2.
