First Event is one of the longest running conferences in the U.S. for transgender and gender expansive people and those who love and support them. The conference was cancelled in 2021 due to COVID-19, but this year a scaled back 41st First Event returns to Boston returns to the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.

Because the COVID test positivity rate in Boston is currently over 6%, and to minimize risk of transmission, First Event will be eliminating all programming that would normally be held in small or crowded spaces or that would encourage close contact. However, coming together as a community is also important so to strike the right balance two events will take place on Friday, January 14th and Saturday, January 15th with several safeguards put in place which are detailed here.

Both Friday’s Trans Celebration Dinner & Fashion Show as well as Saturday’s banquet will have significantly limited registration (<1/3 of the capacity of the Grand Ballroom). The entertainment portion of events will be live-streamed for free and the conference will facilitate organization of informal daytime meetups to explore Boston in small groups.
