While Seattle has a well-deserved reputation as a city obsessed with coffee, a recent survey has found that Boston has more coffee shops per capita than any other city in the United States. The city has 61 coffee shops per every 100,000 residents; roughly 3x more than the average city in the United States.
The top 5 coffee cities (number of shops per 100,000 residents) are:
1 Boston
2 Washington DC
3 Seattle
4 San Francisco
5 New Orleans
There are more statistics for all you coffee lovers or if you want to see where your city ranks in terms of most and least expensive cities to grab a cup of joe, overall best coffee cities, and more that you can read here.

Not a surprise since Dunkin Donuts is probably leading the way.

You know it probably helps but in my neighborhood (South End) there are only 2 Dunkin’s one Caffe Nero, and one Starbucks. The other coffee shops (of which I would guess there are probably close to 15) are all indpendent coffee shops. This post from Jan 2022 is now out of date. Mod Espresso has closed and two new coffee shops / cafes have opened, but the map shows how many are in such a small area. https://bosguy.com/2022/01/12/bostons-south-end-cafes/
