Earlier this month a few of you mentioned that you were no longer able to access my blog from your work because DELL’s Sonic Wall had classified my blog as porn. I joked that my photos of shirtless men must have proven to be too much, but I was irked so I asked people to complain.
The logged complaints and Tweets that were sent to Sonic Wall did not fall on deaf ears and earlier this week I received this Tweet and a few of you shared your email responses from Sonic Wall all pretty much saying the same thing.

I wanted to say a special thanks to @MileHighJoe1 for initially bringing this to my attention and to everyone else who followed up with a complaint to DELL’s Sonic Wall.

Some years ago I created two one-post blogs as an experiment. They both had a relatively innocuous article I cut from somewhere about the first episode of WILL & GRACE. In one post, I used the word “gay” and in the other I changed that to read” homosexual.” Those were the only differences. I ran them through a blog-evaluator and sure enough, the one that had the word “gay” in it was flagged as inappropriate while the other sailed through the censors. I am sure it was a computer program that evaluated them, but obviously it had been programed to flag references to “gay” and pass the word “homosexual.” I imagine the programmer thought that a blog that said “gay” would be positive about LGBTs and the blog that used “homosexual” would be either neutral or negative.
Of course, I can be totally wrong on this …
