In May 2015 I wrote that the abandoned, subterranean Steinert Hall, that has been closed to the public since 1942, may reopen in my post, Abandoned Steinert Theater may be renovated. Earlier this month The Boston Globe confirmed that will likely happen now in their article, Silent for decades, underground theater set to be revived.
The 650 seat Steinert Hall first opened in 1896 and was famous for its impeccable acoustics but was forced to close soon after Boston’s tragic Coconut Grove fire in 1942. The new building owner confirms plans to revive Steinert Hall, underground theater on Boston Common some 70+ years later with the hope of reopening it to the public.
If Steinert Hall is returned to its former glory and opens to the public it would join 9 other theater houses in Boston’s Theater District including:
Boston Opera House
Colonial Theater
Charles Playhouse
Cutler Majestic Theatre
Modern Theatre at Suffolk
Paramount Theater
Shubert Theatre
Wang Center of Performing Arts
Wilbur Theatre
BosGuy 
It would be wonderful to have this gem restored. It was built specifically for classical music events which featured the pianos being sold on the upper floors and voice.
I hope the new owner also takes care of the third floor salon.
