Early 1980s
This week’s post will likely raise a number of eyebrows from readers who don’t think of themselves as vintage but who clearly remember the 1980s.
However, the post is dedicated to the men and women who were brave to live out and proud at a time in our history when it was both dangerous and difficult to do so. With the AIDS epidemic and an unsympathetic president in Washington, it took a lot of cojones to be out and let’s face it the fashion while sometimes tragic is a lot of fun to look at so indulge me this week with this photo. Monday – May 8th – is “VE Day” short for Victory Europe Day. It is recognized in the US and England as the defeat of the German Nazi’s and an end to war in Europe. Rudolf Brazer (shown above laying on his side) is shown with a friend presumably in Germany somewhere prior to the outbreak of war. Rudolf has the distinction of being the last known concentration camp survivor deported by Nazi Germany on charges of homosexuality. He passed away on August 3, 2011.
