Andy Whitfield 1972 – 2011
Andy Whitfield, a Welsh actor and model, passed away at the age of 39 earlier this month. Whitfield played the leading role in the Starz series, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena Blood and Sand (thanks Ace). I was sorry when I first read he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but had assumed he’d make a full recovery. Watching TV tonight I learned that he passed away while with his family on September 11th. He is survived by his wife and two children. What a shame.

No idea he died. That’s sad. He was such a good actor on that show. I knew he was sick but I didn’t know it was terminal. 😦

That was the first news story I read at 12:30-ish in the morning on my birthday. 😦 I was a really big fan of his and was so sad when he died. Also, not to go over this with a red pen or anything, but he was in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Gods of the Arena was done without him.
