Gingrich tells Gay Iowan you better vote for Obama

I don’t know if I should applaud or gag at Republican nominee hopeful, Newt Gingrich’s response to a gay Iowan who asked him ” if he’s elected, how does he plan to engage gay Americans.”   Newt’s response “vote for Obama.”

I no longer apologize for who I am. I’ll follow Newt’s advice

Gingrich has gone so far in recent days  to indicate that if President, he would not follow judicial rulings he disagreed with and would have such “activist judges” arrested – for example federal judges who rule in favor of same sex marriage he would deem “activist”.

Interesting that there are many in the gay community who bemoan the GLBT community is beholden to the far from perfect Democratic Party, but when provided the Newt alternative, I’m curious how this is perceived as a choice? If Newt was asked  the same question but in place of the word “gay” the person asked “Woman”, “Black”, “Latino” or “Jewish” I wonder what the public’s response would be if he told them “vote for Obama”?  You and I both know he’d be labelled a misogynist, racist or antisemitic; so in my opinion the current Republican nominee front runner is homophobic.  Bravo Republican party… now you have a candidate proud to wear the badge of discrimination and hate.  Two Christian values that seem so appropriate for this time of year.

  1. Sadly, I may have to hold my nose when I vote. That is what has happened to me for the last three elections.
I want to support the person who will do the MOST to help the American people.
Government used to be about maintaining services, not about social change. Thankfully, as Lane wrote, more than 50 per cent of the American people support equal rights for their gay friends, neighbors and family members. Although it is about time for such support, NO president can continue to use 1950’s rhetoric for a contemporary issue and social concern. Mr. Ginritch’s stand will have to “evolve; just as it has for President Obama.

  2. I like just about everything about Newt except his position on LGBT Americans which he considers second class. So the only answer to your question is to gag. Considering that polls show that 50% of Americans support equal rights for LGBT Americans and given the strong possibility of an independent presidential candidate like Ron Paul or even Trump, this will so fracture the Republican vote, assuring an Obama win. When that happens, it will be the final nail in this country’s coffin, for which the lid is nearly closed. All that is left is to lower us into the ground. Financially, we are already over the cliff. The real sum that is owed is $237 trillion over the next 15 years, NOT just the $15.8 trillion of national debt. Add federal pensions, federal contracts, Social Security, Medicare, Senior RX Drug Program and the $92 trillion owed by the US Pension Guarantee Fund + FANNIE MAE & GINNIE MAE and that sum equals 100 years of revenue to the FED due over the next 15 years. That does not include any disaster relief. Yesterday, we crossed 50 million Americans on food stamps. So no matter what they cut, this is mission impossible and we are finished financially, thanks to the idiots in Washington.

  3. Finally, Newt and I agree.
If we want some movement on LGBT issues, vote Obama.
    Done.
