Work has been busier than usual and my time at the gym has suffered (that’s a nice way of saying I’ve not been going). While huffing and puffing my way through my first workout in more than a week my trainer asked me, “Have you given any thought to what sort of fitness goals you’d like to set for yourself?” UGH… really? I was just trying to not embarrass myself by gasping and groaning too loudly.
However after my work out it got me to thinking about setting some goals in terms of activities (e.g. setting a minimum number of workouts per week) as well as fitness goals that can be monitored and <gulp> measured. Are you trying to set some personal fitness goals? Misery does enjoy company – do tell.

First, I DEF agree with WranglerMan and his suggestion to workout with your partner/boyfriend/snack item – working out IS foreplay, really nothing gets me more horned up than lifting heaving, especially when I’m surrounded by a bunch of dudes doing the same…..haha okay going off on a tangent…
My goals now are to beef up and for me this has more to do with diet. I keep dabbling in Veganism because I love eating clean, nourishing foods, but after years of doing it I’ve realized that I’ll never gain the mass I want unless I incorporate other protein (and calorie) sources into my diet. Bison is back on the menu and I LOVE it! I suck down about a carton of egg whites (pasteurized but still liquid) a day. I still eat a pretty much Vegan diet. There’s no denying the importance of whole grains, leafy dark greens, those all-powerful orange veggies, etc., but if you really want to add muscle (so sayeth Joe Manganiello’s (swooon) trainer), you need to add lean animal protein in the mix. I’ve been doing a lot of basic but very heavy lifting routines and have already seen a difference after a week and a half.
Yes, working with a trainer can really give you the education and motivation to be a beast in the gym – but you don’t have to work with one forever; listen and learn from them and seek out more training info on your own. Scott Herman has been my virtual trainer (via his YouTube channel) for about a year now. He’s excellent (and I wanna nail him reaaaaal bad!).

Set realistic goals. You’re never too busy to fit in 20 to 30 minutes of cardio each day. Aim for an hour. To make it happen, go to the gym or get outside first thing in the morning…as soon as you get up. Put the alarm clock on your dresser or table away from your bed. When it goes off, you’ll have to get out of bed. And since you are now out of bed…get moving. Write your goals down. Try to increase strength and stamina. It’s great to have a trainer, but after a while, why bother with one? It can be expensive, and you have set up a foundation on which to build. A better alternative is to find a workout partner. You can keep each other motivated. And if he is your partner/boyfriend, all the better. Trust me, working out together is great foreplay. You can go home a take a shower together. If you need suggestions for the shower, hit me up with an email. There are plenty of ways to use the hand-held shower massagers! 😉
