Sky Mall late spring catalog

For those who read my blog, you will be familiar with my periodic poking fun at the Sky Mall catalog. This print catalog is filled with ridiculous and often bizarre merchandise.  Considering I sat through six hours of flight delays on my trip to NYC  last week, I had plenty of time to peruse the catalog’s latest offerings.  Sky Mall Net ChefThe item that caught my attention and had me scratching my head thinking “Who is buying this?” was the NetChef v2 that retails for $279.99. I suppose it is great that it comes with 500+ pre-loaded recipes, but why not buy a tablet and prop it in the kitchen? I’ve done this many times and can assure you bookmarking your favorite “how to videos” or recipes is quite easy.

Sky Mall Rednek Party CupThe other item in the catalog that had me scratching my head was the Rednek Party Cup that retails for $12.95.  My initial reaction was, wouldn’t a redneck make these rather than buy them?  And who would buy these for a gag gift? I’m not familiar with redneck / hillbilly themed parties but maybe they are popular in other parts of the country. I’ll admit I’m out of my depth here so I may be out of line.

Do you find these types of items ridiculous too? You can see what other items have caught my eye in my last Sky Mall post from the 2012 Sky Mall holiday catalog.

  1. Dude, you fly to NYC instead of drive? If you’re an adventurous driver I know I can make PVD to NYC in 2.5 hours. So add an hour, 3.5 hours from Boston. It’s not that bad. Just zip straight down 128 or I-93 to I-95 and you’re there.

And yes, I’m one of those people who thinks if you’re doing less than 80MPH in the left lane you should be flogged and shot.

    • I rarely if ever drive anywhere. And the time of day that I would need to drive would be smack in the middle of rush hour. Driving really isn’t a great option and generally speaking flying isn’t an issue.

      • Trick is, leave at 4:30AM. Whenever we drive to North Carolina that’s when we leave, clear the NYC area before 7AM and you’re good. But then I am what my friend charitably calls a ‘confident’ driver.

And you don’t have to subject yourself to that embarrassment we call security when you fly.

      • Really? You find the TSA security theater to not be an issue?

      • I would happily be stripped search to avoid waking up at 4:30am. Plus the business shuttle has its own line and is not nearly as much of a hassle because its all business travelers.

      • Well – I’m kind of an early riser anyhow so 4:30AM isn’t too bad. But yes, if it’s all business travelers I know TSA does bend the rules a bit.
