Swim for Life in Ptown this weekend

Twenty-six years ago two men, Jay Critchley and Walter McLean, organized the first Swim for Life, which raises money for local health services.  Back in 1988 eighteen swimmers took the plunge and raised $6,000.

In the early 1990s prayer ribbons were initiated to provide visual witness to the swimmers as they crossed the harbor from Long Point to the Boatslip where the swim concludes.  Each swimmer inscribes the names of those they love and a personal message.

Swim for Life Saturday, September 6

Held the weekend following Labor Day, the event has grown over the years, attracting 150 volunteers and more than 400 swimmers. For more information visit swim4life.org.
