Nothing gold can stay

body paint, bodypaint, handsome, musclesEach October I post this poem on my blog. It is by the famous 20th century New England poet, Robert Frost, and is entitled, Nothing gold can stay.

It is obvious that Frost was inspired by the fall foliage in New England when he wrote this poem back in 1923, but this year I decided to play on the the message of the poem with my image selection.

Nature’s first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

  1. I think I remember a similar Robert Frost reference to gold writing “the first green of Spring is “gold”. When the forsythia starts to come out early in Spring I always say this line to self. Awareness of color in nature is fun to observe as I walk around Boston trying to appreciate today’s colors knowing that the ice man cometh.
