The golden age of gay weddings

Gay marriage, same-sex marriageThe US Supreme Court’s decision in June 2015, declaring same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states has resulted in many LGBT couples getting married this year. While many already lived in states where they could get married it was the recognition provided by the Federal Government that some had been waiting for. Regardless of their reasons, wedding planners who focus on this demographic are suggesting that this has ushered in the “golden age of gay weddings”.Interactive Map of Same Sex Marriage by StateAccording to a 2014 estimate from the Williams Institute, nationwide spending on gay marriage could bring in as much as $2.6 billion over the next three years.

Working with Credit Suisse, The Williams Institute created an interactive map, that shows how many marriages occurred and the total spending in the first three years LGBT couples were allowed to marry in those states.  In the case of MA, 12,167 marriages took place and $111.2m was spent. 2. Not sure how I feel about the phrase, “golden age of gay weddings.”

This is NOT a criticism, simply an observation of my feelings, or the lack of awareness, thereof.

Interestingly enough,I recently began reading a series of novels that features the phrase “golden age” throughout said series. Not to mention reading an article on a Website that features same said phrase, but I digress.
