Last spring, after 27 years in business, owner Jackie Taglieri sold Giacomo’s South End. The space closed for renovations shortly after that and has been closed since. On Christmas the new owners announced on Instagram (here) that Casa Giacomo’s would be opening soon but were vague about when.
Last night I was told Casa Giacomo’s will have a soft opening tonight. Initially, the restaurant will only be accepting walk-ins for dinner. The new owners are the team behind the much loved Kava Neo Taverna and Ilona, so I’m very excited to see how they have updated this neighborhood restauarant and what touches they have added to make it their own. Casa Giacomo’s is open daily (starting today) at 5:00 PM.

If you ever enjoyed Giacomos you will be appalled at the paltry menu the new owners have on offer. They’ve retained nothing that made Giacomos unique and beloved.

The 2 BEST and MOST delicious meals have been eliminated from their menu, the Lobster Ravioli, and the Veal Marsalla. I’m much less enthused

My friend and I really enjoyed our selections while we ate at the cozy, new bar they added. We started with the Burrata ($10) and Meatballs ($15). That was followed by our main selections, Chitarra alla Vongole ($24) for him and my dinner was the short rib risotto ($22), which was a great winter option. With most entrees $22 or less, the restaurant has also stayed true to the more affordable price point the original restaurant was known for.

What made the original restaurant so popular was reasonable prices for a wide range of entrees. The Casa Giacomos menu doesn’t begin to compare. And that’s a huge disappointment for those of us who ate at Giacomos weekly for years.

I don’t trust any business that is cash only EVER! They can never be trusted for anything!

Well, that seems like a strange rule to live your life by but that isn’t the case with Casa Giacomo’s. The original owner was cash only but I believe changed the policy during COVID. Regardless the new ownership is very credit card friendly.
