Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. Leave your guess in the comment section.
This week’s riddle: I am taken from a mine and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, and yet I am used by almost every person. What am I?
Here is a hint: The answer to this riddle was once used every day by most but is now rarely used.
I’ll approve responses later in the day to allow people to respond without seeing any spoilers.

I still use one (a pencil with lead), which is why I could maybe add C.P.A. (= Carries Pencils Around) to my signature line.
