Shopping spree

bo concept coffee tableMy home was in shambles through much of July as we put in new flooring and repainted our apartment in Boston.  Shortly after the construction concluded we purged our furniture, which was showing its age and started purchasing replacements.  This weekend we purchased this coffee table from Bo Concepts.

What the image doesn’t show is the glass portion of the table is on hinges so I may store a blanket there to snuggle up with on my couch.

Sunday morning

I love to sleep in on Sunday mornings.

Stick a fork in me… I’m done

I’m wrapping up work early today.

Tick tock…

Summer 2012 has been wonderful but as the calendar turns to August one cannot help but feel like the season is nearing its end.

The weather will remain warm for awhile even here in Boston, but come September the seasons will have changed, students will return to the city and summer will become a thing of the past.

So as the summer enters its final few weeks, make the most of your time  by getting out and doing some of those fun things you had planned at the start of the season.  I’ve had a wonderful summer, visiting the beach, going out and spending time with family and friends and I hope you can say the same.  For those in the Southern Hemisphere patiently waiting for spring to arrive, enjoy the warmer weather coming your way.

Daily Beast picture of the day

panda bearI thought this image of a panda bear being transferred back into the wilderness was really cool (and a bit funny too).  I pulled this from The Daily Beast website which posted it awhile back as a “picture of the day”.

San Francisco’s dirty secret

san francisco escalatorI love San Francisco, but the story about why so many escalators at the BART’s Civic Center station have been out-of-service has left me shaking my head and a little sick to my stomach.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported last week when a repair team opened up one broken escalator earlier this summer they discovered so much human feces they had to call in a hazardous materials team. Yes,  you read that correctly, human poop has been breaking the escalators.  Apparently the area surrounding many BART stations are popular camping spots for many of the city’s homeless population and they are to blame for turning these stations into urban septic tanks (yuck).

So to all my friends in San Francisco, I wanted to suggest possibly pinching your nose the next time you find yourself taking an BART station escalator.

Let the shopping begin

modern furnitureFor the past couple of weeks, I’ve been tweeting about the disarray of my apartment during our remodeling.  I owe my good friend Sergio (another Sergio – not my other half) and Pierre much thanks for letting us shack up at their home during the worst of the construction.

The painters are finally finishing today we are busy cleaning (I had no idea how much of a mess flooring and painting would cause). The next step is purchasing a couple new pieces of furniture. The process will be gradual, but we wasted no time purchasing our new sofa “The Carmichael” from GUS furniture as shown above.

Man dies when testicles squeezed: OUCH!

BosGuyThis is quite possibly the most distressing news story I’ve read all year. Just reading the headline made me gulp.  The lesson I’ve taken from this story is don’t mess with middle aged Chinese women.  Should you have the same sick fascination as me you’ll read the full news story otherwise you can just take my word and never mess with an angry / determined Chinese woman.

Cinqo de Mayo

BosGuyThis holiday is often confused with Mexican independence (which is actually in September), but Cinqo de Mayo is really more a reflection of Mexican heritage and pride and a testament to how important this group is in the U.S.

The US is home to the second largest Mexican community in the world with 17 million documented and illegal Mexicans living here.  That’s a lot of Mexican heritage and pride so feel free to celebrate. Just like everyone’s a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day – everyone (at least in the US) is a little bit Mexican today so cheers.
