Unfortunately between the time I wrote this post and today, the video of the 1945 Gay Home Movie on YouTube came down. The video in question was discovered by St. Louis filmmaker Geoff Story when he stumbled upon some old film reels at an estate sale at a mansion on Lindell Boulevard in St. Louis, which used to be the home of the now-deceased Buddy Walton.

Fortunately you can still watch the brief video here.

homo history blog

This week’s vintage gay post comes from the fabulous homohistory blog. I can’t help but wonder if “Rocky Nook” was meant as a description or the name of the location because there is a Rocky Nook, MA.

This picture is from the Instagram account @LGBT_History and shows Milt & Chris celebrating Christmas in 1954. I love this photo of these two guys (and their little kitty on Chris’ lap).

Axel Axgil, Eigil Axgil

Shown above are Axel Axgil and Eigil Axgil, the world’s first couple to obtain a “registered partnership”. The photo shows them just after the ceremony, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Oct 1, 1989, following Denmark’s legalization of same-sex partnership registration in 1989, a landmark legislation which they were instrumental in bringing about. They adopted the shared surname, Axgil, a combination of their given names, as an expression of their commitment. The images are from buddybuddy.com blog.

gay couple on the beach

I plucked this photo from the Kiki Beach IG account and aside from the two names scribbled on the bottom of the photo I don’t know much. I would venture a guess that this might date back to the 1940s simply by the look of the bathing suits Jeffrion and Felix are wearing. Anyone else able to venture a guess?

This week’s photo dates to the early 1970s when gay activists Scott Smith (left) and Harvey Milk (right) dated. They met in NYC in 1969, but by the early 1970s they were living together in San Francisco. If you’re not familiar with the work Harvey Milk and his partner did for our community in the 1970s, I highly recommend watching the 2008 movie MILK, which earned an Oscar for best original screen play and best actor.

I wish I knew more about these two men, because they look like they were a fun couple.  By their attire, I would assume the photo was taken in the late 180os or possibly the early 1900s; pre WWI.

This week’s photo came from Pintrest and according to the description dates back to WWII. Unclear if they are actually a couple, but I’d like to think so.
