For those unfamiliar with Liberace and his intense relationship with the very troubled, Scott Thorson, I’d suggest you watch HBO’s 2013 brilliant film starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his lover, Scott Thorson – Behind the Candelabra.

Donald Windham and Sandy Campbell were a well-known couple in New York’s gay literary circles. It was at a chance meeting at Paul Cadmus’ studio that Donald met Sandy, who was modeling for one of Cadmus’ paintings. Windham and Campbell began a 45 year relationship that led to a collaboration as avid book collectors, voracious readers, and friends with many of the most important literary figures of their time. The couple lived together from 1943 until Campbell’s death in 1988. Windham passed away 22 years later in 2010.

Stephen Tennant & Sigfried Sasson in Sicily in 1930
Tennent (shown standing on the right) was born into British nobility and had an on again off again relationship with Sasson, an English poet, writer and soldier who was decorated for bravery on the Western Front in WWI. While their relationship only lasted four years, it turned out to be the most significant relationship either man would end up having.
