Posh on Tremont to be replaced by local bank

The space formerly occupied by Posh on Tremont, a South End gift shop that closed their doors earlier this year, will not remain vacant for long.   Cambridge Savings Bank has signed a long-term lease and will convert the space in the coming months.

I was sorry to see Posh on Tremont close their doors but I’m even more sorry to learn they will be replaced by a bank. I recognize that banks, mortgage and real estate companies deserve the same opportunity as other businesses but there are already three banks within one block.  With another bank rumored to go into the soon to be built condos at 518 Tremont that would mean there will be five banks in one block. It is just my opinion, but another local business would have been far more preferable.

  1. Hi BosGuy,

I just wanted to let you know that you may have received some misinformation regarding a Cambridge Savings Bank location in the South End of Boston. At this time we have no plans to open a location on Tremont Street, or elsewhere in the South End. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at 888-418-5626.

  2. How was Beacon Hill able to squash Capital One from coming in to the space that used to be 7-11/Beacon Hill Market? Honestly, if the neighbors can say no to a Dunkin Donuts on Tremont then I don’t see why we can’t do the same with a bank…

I’m surprised that they’d want to be right next door to BofA. Perhaps they see an opportunity to steal away some customers… At least it’s not a European Waxing Salon like they put in on Washington…

  4. DUMB! a business space with such a large sidewalk and promonince should not be wasted on a bank. E.g: BofA. What wonders retail would do for that corner. Banks kill evening tarffic and ambience.

  5. Another bank? What a waste of useful urban space. I’m surprised it’s Cambridge Savings, a local bank that you’d think would have local interests at heart. Great blog, by the way!
