The Associated Press is reporting that The Democratic Party is moving to include support for gay marriage in the official party platform for the first time. This would be a very significant milestone for advocates of same-sex unions and a repudiation of those opposing this right.
For better or worse, the US has only two major political parties and while many in the Democratic Party have been advocates and allies of the LGBT community, making same sex marriage an official party platform brings additional legitimacy to the issue and draws yet another distinction between the two parties.
