Boston’s longest serving mayor, Tom Menino, has died

Thomas MeninoMayor Menino’s battle with cancer ended today according to the Boston Globe. He is missed.

One response to “Boston’s longest serving mayor, Tom Menino, has died

  1. The city has lost a champion of and for the people. Tom was the first Mayor to stand up to the hate mongers also known as the Allied War Veterans Council of South Boston and refused to march in their St. Patrick’s Day Parade because of their exclusion of openly GLBT people.

I worked for his Boston City Council campaign and every mayoral campaign. You got what you saw with Tom – his love of the City and its residents and visitors is immeasurable.

His compassion for his fellow women and men is a lesson all must learn – it is that heartfelt approach to life that makes the world a better place.

In my tradition we recite for the family:
    Alav Ha-sholom

מייַ דער אלמעכטיקער טרייסט איר צווישן די מאָרנערז פון ציון און ירושלים.
May the Almighty comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
