December 1 has been designated “World AIDS Day” every year since 1988. It is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection to more than 75 million people and mourning the 42 million who have died of the disease.
Later today in Boston: The Boston Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and Fenway Health will host a vigil celebrating life and honoring those affected by HIV/AIDS on at 12:00 PM at the AIDS Memorial Tree on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall near Kenmore Square.
