Vintage gay

This is another photo that I can’t place but I like their style, sharing a milkshake. I suppose this could’ve been taken anytime from the 1950s to present day. I’d welcome your thoughts about the photo as well as when or where you think this may have been taken in the comments section.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

  1. Talk about the power of suggestion. By framing this as possibly being maybe as old as the 50’s, my brain automatically concluded that it was 1964/1965. The slightly longer hair isn’t a match for 50’s buzz cuts, but not yet long enough for late 60’s shag. The clothing could be mid-60’s California easy style, definitely not 50s. But then someone pointed out the ear ring on the blonde guy. That would have been completely unthinkable prior to the 90s. My guess is early 2000s.

    • It could be more current but half the guys I knew in the 80s had pierced ears and I was in NH. Don’t know when that trend hit elsewhere but I attribute it to musicians like Freddie Mercury and bands like Thompson Twins.

From the earring the guy on the right has I would hazard it is from the past 20 years or so.

  3. My guess would be more present day vs. the 50’s. The clothes don’t look 50ish. The one guy looks to have an ear pierced and not sure that was in vogue in the 50’s?? The pics look to be from a TGI Friday’s or maybe even a Friendly’s Ice Cream restaurant??
