BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainThis week’s poem / riddle was recently posted on The Closet Professor’s blog. I keep a link to this blog in my blogroll in the right margin and read it regularly. In addition to reading about this gay Alabaman’s life in Vermont, Joe has a passion for poetry that he often shares like this poem / riddle by Irish satarist and writer Jonathan Swift who is best known for writing Gulliver’s Travels (1726).

See if you can guess correctly and leave your answer in the comment section. I’ll approve responses later in the day to give people a chance to respond without seeing any spoilers.

This week’s brain teaser: What am I?

A Riddle

From Heaven I fall, though from earth I begin.
No lady alive can show such a skin.
I’m bright as an angel, and light as a feather,
But heavy and dark, when you squeeze me together.
Though candor and truth in my aspect I bear,
Yet many poor creatures I help to insnare.
Though so much of Heaven appears in my make,
The foulest impressions I easily take.
My parent and I produce one another,
The mother the daughter, the daughter the mother.
