Vintage gay

peter miller, drag queenThe photo was shared with me by a Peter Miller who often shares really cool photos like this one for my weekly vintage gay post. According to Peter’s research this is a trimmed down cabinet card dating back to the 1880s / 1890s depicting a drag queen (likely named Mark Smith). The photo appears to have been taken at Baker’s Art Gallery, located att 106 S. High Street, Columbus, OH at that time.

Much thanks Peter for this amazing find. If you have photos you think would make for a great vintage gay post, please do share them by emailing me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price.

Saturday morning coffee

hunk, handsome This picture is having the same effect as a strong cup of coffee. I’m now 100% awake and my pulse is beating probably a little  faster than necessary.

Furry Friday

Who wouldn’t love getting flowers from this  shirtless guy? I wish the photograph included the flowers, which I assume are roses.

The photo above is one of several from this amazing BBC article, that captures a time in history – alas the story doesn’t end happily as all the guests were arrested but it does make for a quick and interesting read. The photos in the article date back to 1917 in Petrograd – better known today as St. Petersburg.

shirtless, hairy, sexy, musclesIt is Memorial Day. This is typically considered the first weekend of the summer but I’m thinking there will be nothing typical about this summer. For those who have the day off – enjoy the long weekend.

Saturday morning coffee

handsome, hunk, muscularI’m scheduling this post a few weeks early, hoping the weather  for Memorial Day Weekend is warm enough to enjoy a morning cup of coffee outside.

Each summer scenes like this play out each morning in Provincetown. With Memorial Day Weekend considiered the start of our summer season, it makes me wonder what we can come to expect this year.

Furry Friday

This has been a very trying spring and while summer technically doesn’t start until June 20th, Memorial Day weekend is traditionally the start of the summer season here in New England. Here is to hoping for a better summer than spring.

Jon Richardson shared this photo on his IG account months ago and I knew it would make for a great vintage gay photo as we head into Memorial Day Weekend – opening weekend for the summer on Cape Cod.  The photo shows a group of men goofing around at Herring Cove in Provincetown in the 1950s.ek
