Boston Red Sox: LGBTQ ally

Today is the last day of Boston Pride Week 2020 so I wanted to share an excellent article from Out Sports blog that details how the Boston Red Sox went from the last team in MLB to integrate to being one of the biggest champions of LGBTQ Pride.

This year the Boston Red Sox were planning their Pride Night this season to coincide with Boston Pride’s 50-year anniversary and how amazing would that have been? I’ve really enjoyed the annual Pride celebration at Fenway and each year it gets better so I can only imagine what might have been this year.

As of last season, all but two MLB teams hosted a Pride event. MLB’s decision to name Billy Bean as its Ambassador for Inclusion has helped change the culture around the league, but the Red Sox have done more than just host a Pride Night. The Fenway Sports Group has donated to LGBT causes around the city, including a $200,000 pledge to Fenway Health, the region’s largest LGBTQ clinic and resource center. But there is so much more to this story so read the full article on Out Sports, How the Red Sox, who were the last team to integrate, became champions of LGBTQ Pride.

Registration is open for Boston’s Gay Kickball League

Registration to participate in Boston’s Gay Kickball league opens today. Due to its increasing popularity, there will be three leagues: Division A is the most competitive, Division B is described as intermediate, and Division C is for those who are new to the sport and / or are just looking to have fun.

Registration is the same price for all – the different leagues play at staggered times on Sundays, starting April 9th. Due to feedback from last year, the league will not host games (if necessary) the weekend of PVD Pride and this year’s National Tournament will be hosted Memorial Day Weekend in San Antonio.

For More Info / Register Click Here

Early bird registration ($75) is available now through February 22nd and saves you $10. Aside from saving a bit of cash, registering early guarantees you a spot in a league that is very popular and certain to fill-up. You can register individually or as a team.

Before the seasons starts check out Ms. Gay Kickball, a drag contest for any Boston-based athletes that want to represent their team in a drag race for the crown on Saturday, April 4th at Club Cafe (click the link above for details and to register if interested).
