2011 Provincetown summer dates

And just like that I now have a cottage in the center of Provincetown for the week of Carnival. Incidentally, the photo above is not the “cottage” that I refer to. This summer Sergio and I will make three visits to the tip of Cape Cod.

Our first visit is on Thursday, June 30th. We will spend the 4th of July holiday with the throngs of others and then a few weeks later we will be in Provincetown from July 21st – 24th so we can spend time with friends who have a weekly rental. Our final (planned visit) is the week of Carnival August 14th – 20th.

Should you find yourself passing through Boston en route to Ptown or if you will be there the same dates I have planned, please let me know. If you do not have travel plans to Boston/Ptown, more is the loss for me. Hopefully next summer will bring you here so we can meet in person. For those local guys who will be there, let’s plan on grabbing a planter’s punch at the Boatslip tea dance.

Here are some pictures from last year’s Carnival parade. For all its hype its really more PG-13 than anything else. This is no Folsom Street Fair nor is it IML, but it is extremely flirtatious and very fun.

Dreaming of summer

The Boatslip is a popular alternative to the beach in Ptown
Despite the recent rash of cold weather in Boston, I firmly maintain it is spring and warmer weather is (eventually) coming. Temperatures in New England regularly climb into the 80s and 90s so I stay firmly planted the months of June, July and August; only going as far as Provincetown, MA and Ogunquit, ME if I can help it.

I’ve not booked anything for the summer season, but I do hope to get down to Provincetown for 4th of July and Carnival Weeks. I also hope to impose upon friends who have a beautiful home in Ogunquit, ME. All told, I have high hopes for a summer as fun and beautiful as last year.

Tea Dance Carnival WeekI still have to get through spring, which may be the most frustrating of all four seasons. Spring in New England is filled with tempting days of sun and warmth inevitably followed by cold and rain. I suppose I’ll have to settle for “summer dreaming” to get me through the next few weeks.

Should travel plans bring you to the Boston area this summer, let me know and if possible we can meet for a cocktail or coffee – whatever your poison.

Provincetown: West End photos

The weather has turned decidedly cold in Boston over the past week and the mild Autumn temperatures Boston was enjoying are gone. Summer which ended just weeks ago, is sorely missed so I thought I’d post a few photos from one of my last visits to Provincetown this summer.

Summer 2010

Labor Day marks the end of the summer season in the U.S. Hopefully warm weather will remain for a bit longer but for all intents and purposes, the summer of 2010 (which was truly spectacular) is now a thing of the past. I’ve included a few pictures from each month as a sort of homage to the season.

June – Boston Pride
Motley’s window display for pride was both creative and funny. FYI, that is the 80s Cosmo Centerfold of MA Senator, Scott Brown.

The block party as usual was the best part of Boston Pride.

Proud window dressing on Tremont Street.

July – Week of the 4th in Provincetown
My photo with David and Sean after they legally wed in Provincetown.

Two guys showing off their patriotism on Commercial Street.

Temperatures in the 90s kept people hovering by the pool at the Boatslip.

August – Carnival in Provincetown
Tea Dance was packed all week long at the Boatslip.

Another float filled with sexy men flirting with the crowd.

Revelers enjoying the parade and shouting their approval to those sexy men.

Provincetown 2010 Carnival Photos

More pictures from the Provincetown Carnival celebration this past Thursday. The theme this year was Jungle Fantasy and most of the fun happened leading up to the parade with half the town getting dressed up, walking around and posing. I only have a few photos of the actual parade because the streets were so full I opted to duck into the Boatslip to get a tastey beverage, but you’ll get a definite flavor for the celebration.

Carnival in Provincetown

Yesterday, Thursday, was the carnival parade. I will include many more photographs next week after I return home but here are a couple of images to share. For those unfamiliar with Carnival in Provincetown, I would describe it as the town’s version of Pride. As with all things that happen in Ptown – it is over the top and incredibly fun.

Running thru Penn Station half naked & Ptown

My week started with work bringing me to NYC and has ended early (today) with me leaving for Provincetown on the morning ferry. Work kept me busy but I did manage to step out on Tuesday night and grab a drink at Monster Bar. Catching the 5pm Acela back to Boston on Wednesday night proved to be filled with drama. I had to race to catch my train half-undressed. I won’t go into details because it would take too long but suffice it to say, running thru Penn Station half undressed is not a great way to end your work day.

This is likely to be my last visit of the summer to the tip of the Cape. This is Carnival Week and today is the Parade so the excitement on the ferry is palpable; people can not get there fast enough. This year’s theme is jungle fantasy and Margaret Cho & Bruce Vilanch are the parade’s Grand Marshalls.

I’ll be offline for the rest of the week. When I return home early next week I’ll be sure to post pictures from the parade today. Past visits to Ptown this summer can be viewed / read here.

Provincetown Sunset – Friday, July 30th

Just one more day in Provincetown before I head back to Boston. The weather has proven to live up to the hype with plenty of sun. The evenings have been beautiful as well. I did not take the photo of the sunset above, but the picture captures dusk in Provincetown beautifully so I thought I would share it. Tonight we have a dinner party deep in the East End, which I’m looking forward to attending.

Off to Provincetown

All summer the weather in Boston has been hot and sunny, keeping everyone sweating in the city.  Mind you, I’m not complaining. I prefer this weather and love the heat; especially since I have a wonderful apartment with central airconditioning.  The forecast later in the week looks to be a few degrees cooler than recent weeks with temperatures mostly in the mid and low 80s.

This suits me just fine, because I’ll be heading back to Provincetown this week staying from Tuesday thru Saturday.  Although, I have little trust in the extended forecast, it is always reassuring to see lots of sun and warm temperatures predicted.  Good friends have rented a house in the West End and Sergio and I will crash there Tuesday night before checking into Enzo’s on Commercial Street.  We have a delicious lobster dinner planned this Friday (I’ll try to snap photos to share in a future post), but otherwise I don’t really have much planned other than relaxing and having fun.

Blogging may be a bit inconsistent this week as a result, but please do check back. I certainly do appreciate your comments and e-mails.

Ptown chronicles

I’ve arrived back in Boston after spending the past four nights in Provincetown for the holiday weekend.  Since leaving, I’ve participated in my first gay wedding, finally developed an enviable tan, and made a few friends.

Fourth of July is one of the busiest weeks to visit Provincetown and having just returned I can understand why — it was so much fun.  My long weekend really started on Thursday, July 1st when Sergio and I showed up to the Tea Dance at The Boatslip.  I was able to introduce Sergio to David and Sean (the couple I wrote about in my entry, Happily ever after).  The happy couple was nervous (but excited) about their pending nuptials which would take place at the Episcopal Church in the East End on Friday.  With their permission, I’ve posted a quick two minute video of some of the highlights of the ceremony.

Not long after their ceremony concluded Sean and David had to catch the Ptown ferry back to Boston. However, we were able to grab a quick bite then have one last cocktail at the Crown & Anchor. It was sad to say good bye after sharing such an intensely personal moment, but I do hope to stay in touch.  By the time it came to say good-bye, I was referring to them as friends – not a couple I had just met.

The happy newlyweds (and me) post wedding jitters:

While that may have been the climax – the remainder of the weekend was hardly anti-climactic.  Friday through Sunday Sergio and I spent our days on the Boatslip’s deck relaxing in the sun.  One afternoon we were invited to a pre-Tea party by a couple that we met through David and Sean who happen to live down the street from us (small world, huh?)  Shoud you be reading this – thank you Buddy and Patrick for your delicious punch cocktail and your hospitality.

We also checked out Varla Jean Merman’s show, The Loose Chanteuse, which was hilarious and a nice break from the bar scene. In addition to enjoying the show we were seated next to two handsome guys visiting from NYC, Dome and Tarek.  Dome (the one in the red suit) had never been to Provincetown and like a good friend, Tarek convinced him to spend the 4th of July here.  Lucky for us that we met them at the Varla show.  The next morning we ended up sitting together at the Boatslip.

Dome has mentioned that he may be coming to Boston for schooling so we may get a chance to meet and woo him to my hometown.  It would be great to see these guys again they are handsome, friendly and articulate; that’s a hat trick of desireable characteristics.

To capture some of the fun we had and show the fire works which brought nearly everyone from Cape Cod (or so it seemed) to Provincetown on July 4th, I’ve pulled together a roughly edited video.  Sorry its not of better quality, but I am merely a novice and still learning.

Happily ever after

Meet David and Sean – two guys I met on the ferry from Boston to Provincetown.  They flew in from San Francisco so they could get married since California still deems gay marriage a threat.

I had a great time talking with these guys who are spending the week in Provincetown.  They are essentially eloping because they are here without friends and family.  A wedding reception will follow in S.F. but our conversations were all about their pending nuptials.

Its sad to think that they had to fly clear across this country to be able to get married, but I’m happy that I had the chance to meet Sean and David.  When I returned to Boston today, I really wanted to say congratulations and best of luck one more time in a more public forum.

Bound for Ptown

I’m signing off for the weekend.  As I mentioned previously, I am in a Ptown state of mind.  If you happen to be there, look for me among the masses at the Boatslip.
