Ptown state of mind

I’ve decided to hop on the Provincetown ferry Saturday morning for some fun in the sun.  If you happen to be in Ptown this weekend look for me at the Boatslip Tea Dance on Saturday.

Massachusetts courting gay travelers

The Boston Globe is reporting in today’s paper that Massachusetts tourism agencies are directing more efforts to entice Gay & Lesbian travelers to our very gay friendly state. According to Community Marketing 14th annual LGBT tourism study of 2009, Massachusetts was ranked the 11th most visited US destination.
According to the Globe article, Massachusetts and Florida are the only states whose tourism offices have started marketing to gay and lesbian travelers. Frankly, I find that hard to believe but apparently most GLBT Tourism money to date has been spent by cities rather than state agencies.

The effort in MA started last year with a $50,000 budget to appeal to GLBT travelers. Part of that investment went to build the gay-oriented site, http://www.massvacation.com/.

Provincetown – July 2009

The weather was absolutely spectacular while I was down in Provincetown. The town was filled to capacity (so much for the economy keeping people away).

Time was spent relaxing at the Boatslip, going to Tea Dance in the afternoon and out at night, a bit of shopping here and there and several memorable meals including a lobster dinner at a beautiful house in the East End that had spectacular views of the water and the Provincetown’s Pilgrim Monument.

I’ve only been away for two days, and I’m already missing it terribly. As much as I love Boston, Provincetown is where I feel most at home.

Off to Provincetown

Do you like my groovy shades? I found them last August on a random trip to the tiny town at the tip of the Cape. They are a nod to Dame Edna.

Tomorrow I’m leaving right from work to catch the last high-speed ferry to Provincetown, and I will not return until Monday evening. I’m excited about relaxing with friends and enjoying the weather, and looking forward to life without a computer for a few days… so no more blogging ’til I return.

Provincetown in winter

Boston.com currently has a collection of photographs entitled, winter in Provincetown. I never grow tired of that tiny town at the tip of the Cape. You can read the corresponding story by linking here, or you can link here to see the pictures.

Provincetown Winter Night

I have just returned from a relaxing few nights in Provincetown where I spent the New Year’s holiday with my other half and another couple. I plan on sharing a few pictures from our trip but in lieu of writing what we did I took a stab at expressing myself through poetry. There is no disputing the the final result may indeed embarass me in time when I look back at this entry but I thought I would share this attempt at creative expression.

Provincetown Winter Night

The laughter and sounds of summer are gone
Just an echoing memory ’til next year.

The howling winter winds now own the night
Their screams buffet our house and all you can hear.

Winter’s full fury keeps Commercial Street quiet
But in a few months the sun and warmth will return.

And then the crowds will too as they always do
But only after winter has had its turn.

Feliz 2009

It is 11:30pm, and I am watching Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin on CNN to ring in the new year in Provincetown, MA. The weather has been horrible – it took us more than 7 hours to drive from Boston to Provincetown today. Because it took us so long, no sooner did we arrive at our condo then we had to dash off to Ciro and Sals to make our reservation for our last dinner of the year.

Now that we have settled back into our temporary home, I feel much better and relaxed. The weather outside is incredible. The wind is howling and the snow limits visibility but we have an amazing view of the Provincetown monument which is beautifully lit in Christmas lights. I am sure that tomorrow when we wake outside will look like a winter wonderland. For tonight it is quite romantic.

Some of my favorite destinations

I recently returned from a two week visit to Brazil and had a great time so I added my comments about the place we stayed (Casas Brancas) to Trip Advisor. I use the website to help me plan my travels by reading recent comments left by travellers and to validate information I read on the web.

After I left my comments Trip Advisor asked me to rank some of my favorite places. I don’t know that I would really rank any of the destinations below as better than another. Each destination has a special place in my heart and provide me with some wonderful memories. Actually, the list is too short to really encompass all the places I’ve been which I would happily return to, but I thought I’d include it here on my blog since Trip Advisor makes it so easy to share. Perhaps in the future I’ll look back and feel compelled to add new destinations I’ve yet to visit.

Living the glamorous life.

Weekend in Provincetown

Work turned unexpectedly busy and then there has been my obsession with the Summer Olympics in Beijing which has resulted in very little time to spend on my blog, but I do want to post photos from our weekend in Provincetown which was both beautiful and plenty of fun. Here are some pictures from last weekend which I post more for my sake, because they make me smile and think of all the food and laughter that accompanied the quick trip to Provincetown.

Off to Provincetown

Today I am off to Provincetown for the balance of the week. Although the weather looks to be drizzly and cool, I’m still looking forward to going. I have not really spent much time on the Cape over the past few years, but that does not diminish my admiration for Provincetown, which is truly unlike any other place I’ve ever visited.
