MA residents have most gym memberships

More Massachusetts residents have gym memberships than any other state according to the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association.  The survey found that one out of four MA residents belonged to a health club last year.

Here’s a breakdown of the most popular gym activities based on the survey results.  Treadmills 44%; Weight machines 43%; Hand weights 35%; Elliptical trainer 32%; Stationary bike 32%.

Its not exactly clear if having a gym membership translates into going to the gym but having a membership is certainly a step in the right direction.  So in light of this recent article I’m curious, do you have a gym membership and if so where do you live? If you don’t have a membership, do you work out on your own or when you hear the word “gym” do you automatically think “Jim”?

  2. I’ve had a member ship for 2 years here in Dayton, Ohio. Some weeks I’m able to go all 7 days, but I think I average 5. I do 64 minutes of cardio, split between the stationary bike and the treadmill.
