Fitness update

I’ve been working out with my trainer, Kris, for a few weeks and he suggested I record everything I consume so he could review my diet.  I would like to think that I have a fairly healthy diet, but recording everything I ate and drank was eye opening.  First, it confirmed that I eat a lot.  Second, with the amount of coffee I drink you would think it is its own food group.  Third, wine and martinis are my drinks of choice.  However, it was not all bad news, it was satisfying to see I had a fair amount of protein (more than I would have anticipated).

My personal fitness goals really do not include a desire to lose weight as much as it is to tighten my stomach and build more strength in my chest, back, shoulders and arms. Who knows what is possible? I’m nearly 42 and do not intend on making significant dietary changes, but with Kris’ guidance and some modest retooling of my diet, I’d like to see what can happen over the next 8-10 weeks.

  1. I started working out with a trainer/nutritionist four years ago when I finished cancer treatments. The chemo and radiation took a toll on me and left me weak and stick thin. I’m now 55 and I’m in the best physical shape of my life.

  2. I started Crossfit when they opened in Back Bay about six or seven weeks ago. I’ve gone 3x per week and have lost 11 lbs so far. At 45, my goal is not to be some muscle dude (could never happen anyway), but I want to get in good fitness shape (lower body fat, strengthen my core, tighten up). I find the workouts are so tough that I am making wiser choices outside the gym (no snacking, one less glass of wine, etc.) because I just don’t want to have to work it off the next day! LOL

  3. writing down my food and drink would be too damned depressing. on the other hand, I did so many sit-ups on Saturday I can’t sneeze or cough without my abs hurting to high heaven. Good for you for the trainer. I’m not there yet.
