Normally I share information with you but in this post I’m turning the tables. I have been asked by a friend to help them find an affordable option when they go to New York City next month; preferably in Manhattan. Clean, safe and if possible conveniently located are what this traveler is looking for so she can extend her business trip to enjoy some personal time in NYC.
Do you have a favorite place to stay that won’t break the bank for a traveler burdened by a budget? Share your favorite suggestions in the comments section below so all may read.

Row Hotel–8th and 45th. Not posh but clean, affordable, convenient to theaters & restaurants. One block from Times Sq. on the 8th Ave.subway
line.

The Jane Hotel is about as cheap as you’re going to find and in the Village. It’s about $109 but pretty bare bones: they give you a robe, slippers, and towels and there are shared bathrooms down the hall on each floor. No ventilation either aside from a small fan and a window, and the lighting in the rooms is a little on the dim side. It used to be a hotel for sailors so expect extremely small rooms even for NYC.

Midtown – Hotel Edison. I love this hotel for the location, price, (twice a week wine party,) and the staff. The rooms and hotel are in the Art Deco style – for me a major plus. They closed the Polish Tea Room (lobby coffee shop) earlier this year. The staff at all levels are friendly.
If you want a mega lobby this is not the place for you – the lobby is small and utilitarian.
Well worth it.
