Last week The Boston Globe wrote (once again) about a huge mixed use project in Government Center that would add to Boston’s skyline and significantly change the make up of the Government Center / West End neighborhoods. The project proposed by HYM Investment Group (shown above) would replace the existing Government Center parking garage (shown below) with two towers; a 45-story apartment tower and a 43-story office tower. The two towers are part of a larger, 2.4-million-square-foot development that was first proposed back in 2011 but is finally expected to start next year.
According to The Globe, the new apartment tower will feature a mix of studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom units and will offer a lineup of amenities including a swimming pool, sun deck, yoga studio and gym on the 9th floor, while the 31st floor “will offer leisure spaces for residents with a multi-purpose room, library, and roof deck.” According to the BRA website, the project will include 800+ residential units, a 196-room hotel, 82,500 square feet of retail space, while preserving the nearly 1,200 parking spaces from the garage.

Hopefully they will be able to get this latest incarnation off the ground.
