The festival starts with Spark welcome reception on Wednesday, but most of the fun takes place Thursday evening through the weekend.

I’m not crazy about the host hotel. The rooms are rather blah for the price.
There are options galore near the Wyndham. Last year I stayed at the Loews Miami Beach which is an eight minute walk or a quick cab for less than $10 with tip.
The other benefit of not staying at the host hotel is that you will not be subject to ambient noise.
If you are going to be there for the entire week one of the passes is the way to go – the titanium pass gets you into everything and there is a special queue with faster access.
Another thing to consider is which airport to fly into. If you are not renting a car (which I think is the way to go) I’d suggest Miami over Fort Lauderdale – the real fare is the airline ticket plus the cost of roundtrip ground transportation.
