Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.
Leave your answer in the comment section. I’ll approve responses later in the day to give people a chance to respond without seeing any spoilers.
This week’s brain teaser: If Santa’s five elves take five minutes to make five dolls, then how long do you think 100 elves will need to make 100 dolls?
With 100 on staff, how much time do they have to spend in planning meetings and filling out supply request forms before they can start on the dolls?

I’d guess a few years. I’ve read “The Mythical Man-Month” and how adding more people doesn’t necessarily mean that things get better or even stay the same. Yes, if you could have 20 separate teams of 5 elves each then 100 dolls could be done in five minutes, but if the elves keep bumping into each other trying to get their work done, some will end up in the hospital, and other resources might be limited.

Trick question. Not really enough information, you have to assume each elf worked at the same pace and completed a doll. We know different people usually don’t work that way, so one elf could have completed all five while the others never finished a single one.
