2022 Wicked Queer Film Festival

Boston’s LGBTQ+ film festival, a.k.a. “Wicked Queer”, will return to in-person showings and will open with, Wildhood on Thursday, April 7th at The Brattle in Harvard Square.

Boston’s 38th annual LGBTQ+ film festival, Wicked Queer will have more than 40 films over the 10-day festival with showings at The Brattle (Harvard Sq), The Bright Family Screening Room (Emerson College), and The ICA (Seaport). For those who may live further away and cannot attend in person, films will also be available on Wicked Queer’s Xerb-TV channel.

This year’s program will have nearly 20 feature films, half as many documentaries, throwbacks and shorts. I’d also like to give a shout out to my friend and fellow blogger, Matthew Rettemund, who is behind the much lauded, Boy Culture: The Series, and will be available for viewing on Xerb-TV.

What a handsome couple. I love the intimacy captured as the two share a moment. I think the guy on the right has a knit tie which I believe were in fashion in the 1950s and happens to be when I think this photo may have been taken. Anyone able to date the photo based on their appearance?

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Everyone is Irish, if only on St. Patrick’s Day, which is tomorrow, Thursday, March 17th. I’ve republished a slightly naughty limerick I wrote a few years ago in honor of the holiday.

Lim’ricks are the naughtiest prose
Dirty rhymes we love to compose
Men from Nantucket
Shouting, “Go $uck it!”
Are fun to write I suppose
