Tweet of the day: Homophobia

Jon GnarrThe Mayor of Reykjavik, Iceland clearly calls it like he sees it.  I can appreciate his candor and find it refreshing for a politician to take a bold stand against homophobia and homophobic slurs. Hat tip to blogger, JoeMyGod, for bringing this to my attention by posting the Tweet.

Boston Lesbian

twitter profileLast week @BostonLesbian started following me on Twitter.  This individual is a Twitter newbie, but I hope she sticks with it.  If her profile is an example of her sense of humor, I think she’ll be fun to follow.

Her Tweets direct you back to a hilarious Tumblr page – this is my favorite, When Someone Tells Me They are Voting for Mittens.

You can follow this card-carrying U-Haul Party lesbian on Twitter here.

Tweet of the day: MittStormTips

BosGuy

@MittStormTips is a hilarious handle worth following on Twitter.  As the handle’s description says “Storm tips for the 1%”. Thanks for the tip little brother.

What’s in a name anyway

OneRebelDevilAbout a week ago onerebeldevil (on Twittah) posted this funny photo and was nice enough to share it with me. All I can think is there is a gay advertising executive with a wicked sense of humor.

StatusPeople for Twitter

For those of you who use Twitter, there is an interesting application that helps you find out how many inactive and fake Twitter accounts follow you.

A quick visit to the StatusPeople website showed only 3% of my followers are fake accounts (damned if I know which ones though) but a whopping 17% are now inactive. Not sure what I’m going to do with that tidbit of info, but I have to admit I thought it was interesting.  Do you use Twitter? Check out StatusPeople.

American Express loves social media

American Express social mediaAmerican Express seems to love social media and that makes me love my American Express card even more. A couple of years ago Amex created Small Business Saturday as a response of sorts to Black Friday.

They must have liked what happened because since that time they more than any other credit card has embraced social media with innovative and interesting campaigns that have encouraged me to sync my card with their social media sites / accounts.

I think what American Express has done is genius, and I’d love to see other companies take a page out of Amex marketing handbook.   Do you have a Facebook, Twitter and or Four Square account and an American Express card? Definitely take advantage of these programs.

Tweet of the day: Obama

Obama’s timely Tweet to Clint Eastwood at the RNC Obama TweetAs posted on JMG.

Tweet of the day: Chris Christie

governor christieLast night the Republican Party had Gov. Christie deliver the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention, which is a political party meeting to officially nominate Mitt Romney.

At the moment, there is no bigger darling of the Republican Party than the governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie. I don’t mean that literally as you may conclude from his photo, but more in terms of his popularity.  However, I thought his speech was really lacking and clearly so did David Axelrod who runs Obama’s campaign.

For those who may not follow politics. Many believe that Christie doesn’t believe that Romney can win in 2012 and has his eyes on the Presidential election in 2016.

Klout

About a year ago someone told me about Klout, which claims to measure your influence and compare it with others you may interact with on sites like facebook and twitter.

I don’t really take Klout that seriously but I do find it interesting.  According to Klout my areas of “influence” include the following topics: Boston, LGBT, Gay/Lesbian/BiSexual, Restaurants and Politics.

If you find this sort of thing interesting you can check out Klout online at Klout.com.  If you are on Klout you can find me at, http://klout.com/#/BosGuy

Apple eyes Twitter

Apple social mediaOn Friday the New York Times reported that Apple is in talks with Twitter to make a “strategic investment” in the company.

While Apple has been very successful within the mobile space, the firm has failed miserably at tapping into social media, which has become an increasingly important for web and mobile.  Studies continue to show how social media which build communities of interest are increasingly influencing how people spend their time and money.  With Apple’s business model relying heavily on apps and their iTunes store this would seem like a smart long-term investment in their business model.

I have no idea if Twitter would be for sale, but the more I think about this pairing the more it would be interesting to see just what “strategic investment” means.

Tweet of the Day: Romney Smackdown

Mitt RomneyThanks to my good friend, blogger Julian for sharing these two Tweets with me.  You can click on the image to enlarge, but I’ll happily share the text above with you since it’s spot on. Incidentally you may follow Julian on Twitter as well @JustGngr.

MITT ROMNEY TWEET: Sally Ride ranks among the greatest of pioneers. I count myself among the millions of American she inspired with her travels to space.

RESPONSE: @MittRomney kind of despicable & grotesque that her partner of 27 years will be denied federal benefits, don’t you think?

Tweet of the day: Making my day

Funny TweetsAre my followers more humorous than I realize or am I simply able to read more Tweets and in a better mood because I’m out here on Cape Cod? Tough to say, but this Tweet by Ratty from earlier in the week gave me a good chuckle.  I’ve been told that Bostonians have a cruel sense of humor – I suppose it must be true.

Ratty lives in the South End and he mostly Tweets about food and life with his fiancee.  If you’re on Twitter and you’d like to follow Michael, you can find him @HeyRatty.

Tweet of the day: 50 Shades of Gray

I don’t know why but I thought this Tweet from Chris was hilarious. Chris is attending M.I.T. and many of his Tweets revolve around politics and local happenings here in Boston.  If you like, you may follow him on Twitter @MITguy01.

Tweet of the Day: Cape Cod

BosGuyLoved this Tweet from Joan Rivers last week.  Having just returned from Provincetown (which is the last town at the tip of Cape Cod), I couldn’t agree more with her analysis – at least regarding Cape Cod.

Thanks to Izzoiz.com for bringing this to my attention.

Davy a.k.a. CuteLiberal on Twitter posted this quote from Dorothy Parker earlier in the week and it gave me a good chuckle.  I thought you might enjoy it as well. If you are on Twitter, check out and follow @CuteLiberal.
