Boston Drag Idol is an annual benefit that takes place at Club Cafe and is sponsored by Boston Spirit Magazine to help raise money for Victory Programs.

This Saturday, six contenders will take the stage at Club Cafe and try to win your hearts, the praise of the judges and the mistress of ceremonies, Verna Turbulence to claim the coveted title of Boston’s next Drag Idol.

The fall may be the busiest time of year for Boston. Below I’ve shared 50 programs, events, parties and festivals all happening this week. Some events I’d like to highlight include a new drag night for Boston called Drag Gauntlet at Jacques on Tuesday, Mean Girls plays on Thursday at the Coolidge, and the 2018 Boston Spirit Magazine Drag Idol on Saturday at Club Cafe.

The big news this weekend is the closing party for one of Boston’s last gay nightclubs that sold their property after they received a sweet deal. Paradise “Last Dance” Closing Party is Saturday night from 10PM to 3AM. 

It also happens to be opening weekend for three local theater companies: SpeakEasy Stage Co’s production of Between Riverside and Crazy, Zeitgeist Stage presents, Vicuña and Central Square Theater’s production of Truth Values. This weekend I was contacted and told that the gay nightclub, Paradise, located at 180 Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge will close later this month to accommodate Novartis Pharmaceuticals expansion plans, which recently bought the space for $1.75 million

I have not been able to confirm the closing date, but for several years there has been talk that Paradise (one of only a handful of gay nightclubs remaining in Boston) would eventually close due to Novartis inevitable expansion.

Despite a rainy forecast, there remains plenty to do this final weekend of summer here in Boston, Ptown and Ogunquit.

Despite the warm weather in Boston, Labor Day Weekend is typically the end of summer here in New England. As we head into this weekend beware of the dubious Boston “holiday” referred to as Allston Christmas, as tens of thousands of people move out of apartments and make ready to move into new apartments with a September 1 lease.
