This weekend there are several parties, events and programs I’d like to note starting with the 99th Annual Saint Anthony’s Feast Weekend, which technically starts on Thursday; on Saturday you can catch some great local, live music at Boston Jazz Fest.

If you want to go dancing there are no shortage of parties and clubs, but I’d like to give a shout out to Drag Race Extravaganza! on Friday and the monthly queer bash in Allston, DONT ASK DONT TELL, on Saturday. Finally close your weekend with the annual Summer Sports Tea Dance on Sunday.

Guy Social Boston – local MeetUp Group –  is starting a monthly gay roller skating night which will kick off tomorrow, Thursday August 16th at Chez Vous Roller Skating Rink in Dorchester.

A new survey from the AARP has found that the majority of gay men over 45 living in the United States are single. The survey included nearly 2,000 LGBTQ adults from all 50 states and asked people about their thoughts on age and aging.

The survey found that gay men are much more likely to live alone with 57% of gay men over the age of 45 indicating they were single as compared to 39% of lesbians. They did not share what percent of the heterosexual population is single over the age of 45, which I would have found interesting to learn.

The survey, which was first published in March of this year, helps us better understand and be better able to respond to the challenges facing an aging LGBTQ community.  The survey explored other issues including access to quality healthcare, long term care and housing, which mirror concerns the general population share but which many in the gay community face without the help of family or children. You can read the full report here: Maintaining Dignity.

There are a lot of fun things happening this week including Dine Out Boston, New Belgium Brewing brings back Tour de Fat,  The 49th Chinatown August Moon Festival and The Great Boston Rib Fest will both entertain and serve delicious food & drink for you to enjoy. Starting Saturday, Ptown will fill to capacity as it plays host to the 40th Carnival: Mardi Gras by the Sea.

The Official RuPaul’s Drag Race World Tour returns with an all new show starting this September. The world tour comes to Boston on Thursday, September 6th and will take place at The Shubert Theatre. Hosted by Bob The Drag Queen, you can expect some sickening performances by Season 10 finalists Aquaria, Asia O’Hara, Eureka and Kameron Michaels along with fan favorites Kim Chi, Valentina and Violet Chachki!

There is a lot going on this weekend including opening weekends for both Love! Valour! Compassion! at the Provincetown Theater and  Richard III is free in Boston thanks to Commonwealth Shakespeare Co annual free production on the Boston Common. Free outdoor movies are also showing including Splashat Rowes Wharf and Elf at the Hatch Shell (both on Friday) and Coco is showing at the Prudential Mall park on Saturday.

Also happening this weekend: Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival starts Friday and runs through the weekend and on Saturday, Paradise “SAGA” night hosts a Summer Block Party, starting at 9PM in Cambridge.
