Thank you to BosGuy blog reader, Frank, for sharing this photo. I can’t help but imagine that this was taken in Central Park in the 1920s or maybe 30s but it’s a total guess. Can you tell me anything about this couple sneaking a smooch in the park?

This photo was shared earlier this year in the Facebook Group Workingmen Beefcake. I love the smooch but can’t quite make out the names written at the bottom of the photo. Any thoughts on when or where this photograph may have been taken? The car in the background may provide a hint.

It is not clear when this photo of two friends (maybe more) was taken, but I’ll guess the early 1950s based on what appears to be a higher waist bathing suit being worn by the guy on the right. I love how happy they both look but especially the guy on the left who also happens to have a beautiful smile.

The photo is from 1980 San Francisco Pride. The first case of AIDS in the US would be reported one year later in June 1981, and life for these men and millions of others would never be the same again. Most of the U.S. would refuse to help, leaving tens of thousands to die afraid and alone. An unsympathetic America would see AIDS as “God’s will” and a way to “cleanse society”.

Here is a great photograph from the Castro in the 1980s I believe. The image is one of many from DJ Mag which posted a great article this past January entitled, It Takes A Village, People: Preserving San Francisco’s Gay Disco History.

I love the intimacy of this photograph. Based on the hairstyle, I’m assuming this was taken in the late 1960s or 1970s. When do you think this was taken?

Much thanks to Jerry who is a member of the Facebook Group, Vintage Workingmen Beefcake for sharing this photo. While I don’t know that these two are gay, their body language is certainly intimate enough. Perhaps what dates this photo more than anything else is the use of a chalkboard to list swimming heats.
