Living in Massachusetts it is easy to forget that there are cities and states around the country that do not have LGBT non-discrimination laws on the books.
While homophobia exists everywhere, there is power in having the law on your side and over time those laws influence behavior and help to change attitudes because the LGBT community is more welcomed and as a result able to live more openly.

Plus the shondra that the Boston Globe’s Jeff Jacoby is shown as an example of discrimination – he has a lot to do this year leading up to Yom Kippur – and I will personally dog him at Shul for continuing to be a hater.

It is indeed alarming that this is so rampant – and we (myself included in it) forget how good we have it. May we work together so all are seen and treated as equal. Amen.
