I really love the holiday season and think of this time of year as a bright spot that comes just before a long and cold New England winter. However, not everyone shares my holiday cheer and for many the season is stressful; end of year work obligations, dysfunctional family parties, constant reminders to be cheerful and happy etc… Sometimes it can be hard to feel merry.
I hope this isn’t the case for you, and I want to let everyone know, despite the ongoing political news which I find very depressing, I’m sending out positive thoughts to all and wishes for a wonderful 2017.
Happy Holidays to All
I somehow missed this event when I was compiling my “What to Do” post for this week so I wanted to rectify that by sharing with you information about A Drag Christmas.
If you are a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Logo TV you’ll want to come to the House of Blues tomorrow to see this most unconventional holiday show. Check out performances by former Drag Race contestants, Thorgy Thor, Kim Chi, Naomi Smalls and more. (Sunday, December 18 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.; House of Blues, Boston; $20-155; all ages)
Marketers should pay more attention to their choice of font. This isn’t as vulgar as you may initially think and it is my own way of spreading some demented holiday cheer. Much thanks to funny man, Scott Backman for sharing it.
If you’ve yet to register to attend the 8th annual Toys for Joys Gift Gala, I wanted to remind you that the celebration is a week from this Friday on December 9th. This is a really wonderful event that brings together Boston’s LGBTQ community and our allies to collect gifts for underprivileged children in Boston and the Boston area. The fundraiser is devoid of speeches and rubber chicken meals and devoted instead to socializing with friends.
Provincetown’s Holly Folly 2016 is a three-day weekend festival that starts tomorrow on Friday, December 2 and runs through the weekend. The full line up of events which includes lots of shopping, music, parties and more is detailed on their official website, ptown.org/holly-folly.

The Slutcracker is Boston’s groundbreaking holiday smash-hit that is returning for its ninth season at the Somerville Theater in Davis Square. For those of you who may be unfamiliar, the Slutcracker provides a scene-by-scene retelling of The Nutcracker with a naughty twist.
Performances start Friday, December 2nd and will run through December 31st but tickets to this show sell quickly so do not delay.
Starting in December, City Hall Plaza will look radically different with a custom-designed outdoor skating path will span approximately 11,000 square feet.
The City’s release said, “Open to the public seven days a week, Bostonians and visitors alike will be dazzled by the winter activities, holiday shopping from a mix of local and international vendors, an eclectic array of hospitality experiences at the Urban Lodge, Vinopolis Interactive Wine Experiences, The Chocolate Story, and attractions including Santa’s House and a pedal-powered Holiday Tree.”
Flash mobs may be passé at this point, but when you add to the mix drag queens on location at Bondi Beach in Sydney Australia and scores of people having fun on a beach it just seems to work. Enjoy this clip which was released earlier this week by Bright Spark Pictures.
Much thanks to Kenneth in the (212) for sharing this funny cartoon on his blog last week. I couldn’t help but repost it on my blog this week. Apparently all of us are subject to seasonal affective disorder.
Sergio and I are in Brazil for Christmas this year where the temperatures are warm and the daylight plentiful. The photograph shown above is actually from 2012 when we were visiting Florianopolis “Floripa” in southern Brazil.
Despite the fact that we are nowhere near a beach (we are in Belo Horizonte for the holidays), we are enjoying every minute of Brazil’s summer.
Merry Christmas
