2018 LGBTQ Conference: Resilience Through Love & Resistance

gay, handsome, kissingIn lieu of featuring a local gay sports club or social group I wanted to highlight the work being done by HBS LGBT Student Association in conjunction with HKS LGBTQ Caucus, HLS Lambda, & QueerEd, all of which are officially recognized student-run organizations of the Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Law School, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

2018 LGBTQ Conference: Resilience Through Love & Resistance

Each year these groups at Harvard convene to address issues that impact our community. The conference is open to the public and this year will include comedian and writer Travon Free, CEO of The Travis Project, Amit Paley, and Justice Mary I. Yu from the Washington Supreme Court to name a few people. They will have open discussion with topics ranging from Queer Media Voices to Out in the Workplace to something called “Vogue-ology Workshop”.

Students comprise a significant percentage of Boston’s population and if you are attending one of the 60+ area universities and colleges I would encourage you to get involved with the local LGBTQ group. If you are looking for help organizing such a group, I would recommend reaching out to one of the organizations mentioned above or at another nearby university or college.

I want to feature the LGBTQ groups and organizations that help people connect and enrich Boston’s gay life. If you’d like to have your club / team featured, please email me at bosguymail@gmail.com or via FB messenger.

Toys for Joys needs your help

T4J, gay bostonMany people in our community are familiar with Toys for Joys, a charitable organization that hosts a fun party each December to collect gifts that are in turn shared with local charities so children in the area will receive thoughtful gifts during the holiday season.

Gay for Good Boston

Over the years I’ve promoted a variety of volunteering opportunities from Boston’s Gay For Good chapter. This organization aims to energize and mobilize the LGBT+ community to interact with the greater community by volunteering time to various social welfare and environmental service projects.

Each month, Gay For Good Boston selects a different non-profit to donate their time for a community service project. No money is required on your part but space for volunteering opportunities is generally limited so it is best to be a member to know when the opportunities are posted. If you think you’d like to learn more about this group, like their Facebook page and visit their website, gayforgood.org/chapters/boston.

The Welcoming Committee

The Welcoming CommitteeThe Welcoming Committee (a.k.a. TWC) is a social group that believes in (and works to) broaden the spectrum of what gay life has to offer. Staff and volunteers help create and enrich our local community by bringing people together and organizing programs that go beyond traditional gay venues. Their events include everything from social mixers to organizing meet ups at sports events and even planning trips like next week’s WoW weekend at Sunday River. The organization is mostly comprised of 20- and 30-somethings but all are welcome.

You can learn more about TWC by visiting, thewelcomingcommittee.com and liking their Facebook page. One of their signature events is the monthly Guerrilla Queer Bar (GQB for short) which happens the first Friday of every month.

Many use the New Year as an opportunity to make resolutions. A common resolution is to be more active and meet people, but that can be difficult for gay men in Boston. Starting in 2018 I want to feature the many groups and organizations that help people connect and enrich Boston’s gay life. If you would like to have your club / team featured please reach out to me.
