Idina Menzel performs Another Day and Defying Gravity

I couldn’t resist the opportunity to include a photo of Idina alongside her handsome husband, Taye Diggs.  Below is a video from Idina Menzel’s show aboard the Atlantis Cruise. I’ve included her singing “Another Day”  from Rent and “Defying Gravity” from Wicked.

Kylie Minogue – Get outta my way

Last year the models of Randy Blue made a video tribute to Kylie Minogue. I cannot think of a better way to start my Friday than listening to Kylie and watching this video chalk-full of shirtless, sexy men.

Bills, Bills, Bills by Glee’s Darren Criss

Have bills from your holiday spending started to arrive?

Maybe this video of the charming Darren Criss and the Glee cast singing a cool mash up of Destiny’s Child – Bills Bills Bills – will put a smile on your face. I hope the damage to your wallet was not too severe and the holidays were good to you.

Wicked Awesome: 101.7 WFNX Flashback

Boston radio station 101.7 WFNX will invite many of their past hosts and shows back onto the airwaves to kick off the holiday season. The playlist, production and voices will all take listeners back ten, fifteen, even twenty years into the WFNX archives. The Flashback weekend will kick off this coming Wednesday November 23rd at 7pm and culminates on Sunday, November 27th. Listeners will be treated to live, new shows featuring Morning Guy Tai with Henry Santoro, a live X-Night with host Mike Gioscia, Spin Cycle with Liquid Todd, and on-air shifts featuring Storm Zbel, Kurt St. Thomas, Kat Corbett, Neal Robert, Joanne Doody, Bill Abbate, Duane Bruce, and many more. Growing up, I listened to WFNX religiously.  This radio station is the reason I became obsessed with bands like the Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Eco and the Bunnymen, New Order, etc.  I’m so listening to them and thanks to the advent of the internet, if you like that sort of programming you can too online.

Boston Music Awards

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Check out the Boston Music Awards on Sunday, November 20th at the swanky Liberty Hotel in Beacon Hill. Now in its 24th year, this program is designed to recognize local talent and help encourage the local music industry.

Any musician, producer or industry professional who is a New England native or has lived in the area for a substantial period of time, actively working is eligible for consideration for appropriate BMA’s.  Tickets are still available to attend this event and can be purchased online here.  You can also follow the chatter on Twitter at Twitter.com/BMAs_Boston.

Madonna sings acapella

OMG, I love this video of Madonna. If you are a fan you’ll want to watch this. Thank you to Kevin over at The Lisp for bringing this to my attention.

Adele in Boston for throat surgery

Twenty-three year old singing sensation, Adele, has been spotted around Boston quite a bit lately, dining out with friends at Red Lantern most recently.  She will be undergoing surgery for what The Boston Globe describes as “an increasingly common throat ailment”.  Let’s hope this gifted singer and song writer will make a speedy recovery and will be better able to take care of her throat by kicking her smoking habit which can’t be helping although is not necessarily related to the  hemorrhaging, which has caused her to cancel tours and now seek medical attention from Dr. Steven Zeitels.

Want to read more about what is ailing Adele and this increasingly common throat ailment? You can read the full story here.

Lady Gaga – Teeth official music video

Gaga ups the gay quotient in this homoerotic music video for her song Teeth.

Young London is Boston’s next pop music export

I rarely write about new musical talent, but a new local pop band called Young London is getting a lot of attention, and I thought I’d share a recent write up about their debut single.  The Boston Phoenix comments “in light of the interest they have generated A relocation to Los Angeles seems imminent, especially with label ties to the West Coast. But for now, the party’s in Boston.

If bubble gum pop is your thing you’ll want to check out the Phoenix article here and watch their video.

Like what you hear?  Check out their facebook page, and look for their first full-length CD expected to release in January (with a national tour to follow).

Sophia Grace Brownlee homage to Nicki Minaj

Did you see this little girl on Ellen?

Hump day: Alanis Morissette

Although you may wish today was Friday, my calendar assures me that it is only Wednesday… A.K.A. “Hump Day”. So I thought I’d think a little outside the box and share this video of Alanis Morissette spoofing the Black Eyed Peas song “My Humps”.  If you’ve never seen the video, I hope you find it funny.  This is my lame attempt to interject some humor into the week.

The Bangles perform in Boston tonight

Okay, so technically I’m a day late and its more like a Traumatic Tuesday, but that wasn’t a song by The Bangles who are performing in Boston tonight.

Although I’m not going to see the show, I have no shortage of fond memories of this 80s girl band, who I first saw perform at the Orpheum in Boston back in <gulp> 1985. I’m not sure if tickets to see their show at the Wilbur are still available, but you can get more information here.

Bostonians: Amy & Nick A.K.A. Karmincovers

Amy and Nick are originally from Boston (hence several videos with Nick wearing a Red Sox cap). Check out Amy’s vocal / rapping skills at the 1:20 point in the video. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I watched this.

I believe they now live in L.A., and I wanted to give them a shout out. I believe they also have some original songs on their Youtube channel despite the “Covers” name, Karmin Covers Youtube channel.

Get outta my way

With most of Boston Pride activities shifting into high gear for the weekend, I figured I would add some Kylie to the mix. Her concert this past April had all the excitement of a Pride event. How cool would that be to see her during your home city’s Pride celebration?

Benny Feilhaber Brazilian soccer player & lip sync ingenue

Benny Feilhaber is a 26 year old soccer player for the New England Revolution. He was born in Brazil and raised mostly in the US and is currently on the cover of the Improper Bostonian. However, if you’re not particularly interested in reading the Soroff interview, you can check out this funny music video he created of the Chris Brown / Jordin Sparks song No Air.

Apparently he created the video for a friend as a joke, but it went viral so after initially being embarrassed about the incident (at least according to the interview) he’s come to laugh it off and embrace it. Either way it certainly “ups” his cute factor and makes me like this very handsome midfielder even more. I especially like the goofy faces he makes at the start of the video. Watch the video and let me know if you agree.
