Gaily Grind: Rugby players bubble butts

sports, assMost of you read my blog while you’re at work so I make an effort to keep my blog pg rated (well pg-13 rated) so employers won’t block my site; this isn’t an easy task since anything “gay” seems to be equated to sex, which often is categorized as porn and blocked.  While my post is perfectly respectable note that the Gaily Grind article, that I link to is not safe for work unless you happen to work in a proctologist’s office.

Here are 10 Times Rugby Players Showed Off Their Butt (NSFW)

OutRyders opening party at Club Cafe this week

gay ski club, gay snowboard club, boston, new englandOutRyders is a 250+ member gay ski and snowboard club here in New England.  I included a link to their website in my September blog post, Making friends in Boston through local sports teams and clubs, but I wanted to give them another shout out because later this week on Thursday, November 12th they will be hosting their annual Opening Party at Club Cafe, starting at 7:30.

The purpose of the party is to provide a chance to socialize (off the slopes) where members from last year and people who may not be familiar with the organization can share cocktails, chat and learn more about the coming ski / snowboard season. This year the OutRyders will have day trips to ski resorts through out New England as well as a few longer get aways including a trip to Sugarloaf over the holidays (12/27-30), and a trip out West to Telluride (2/21-28/2016).

For more information visit their website at www.outryders.org.

Gus Kenworthy comes out as gay

Gus Kenworthy US OlympianGus Kenworthy first appeared on my radar during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia when he took the silver medal in Men’s freestyle skiing. However it was his decision to postpone his return to the US following the Olympic Games to help find homes for more than 1,000 stray dogs in Sochi that captured my heart. sports, athlete, Olympian, comes out, gayToday Gus Kenworthy is making news again, but this time because he has come out to the media, confirming he is gay. With every athlete who comes out as gay they help to chip away at stereotypes and challenge assumptions about gay men and their ability to compete in sports.  The fact that Gus is handsome and showed a more compassionate side to saving stray dogs is just icing on the cake so to speak.

Kenworthy has a videotaped interview on ESPN where he candidly discusses how he felt the need to hide the fact he was gay, “for the longest time I didn’t think I would tell anybody. I was so scared of what people would think… that way no one would ever have to know this dark side of me.”  You can watch the 2-minute video of Gus Kenworthy talking about why he ultimately chose to come out, here.

Head of the Charles Regatta is this weekend

RegattaThe Head Of The Charles Regatta (HOCR) is a Boston area tradition that dates back to 1965 and has evolved into the world’s largest rowing competition that spans two days, drawing more than 11,000 athletes and 400,000 spectators.  The 2015 HOCR takes place this weekend so bundle up since it is unfortunately unseasonably cool and come down to cheer on these athletes.

The organizers have created a great website that includes more information about the races, maps and FAQs. You can learn more by visiting the official HOCR website, www.hocr.org.

Head of the Charles is Oct. 17-18, 2015

RegattaThe 51st annual Head of the Charles Regatta will take place Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th. Just as Patriot’s Day (a.k.a. the running of the Boston Marathon) is synonymous with spring for Bostonians, the regatta reminds us that it is Autumn. The Head of The Charles is the largest regatta in the world, attracting more than 8,000 rowers and 300, 000+ enthusiasts and onlookers who cheer the athletes every stroke of their race. Head of Charles Regatta MapIf you’ve never been or if it has been a few years since you last found yourself at the Head of the Charles, I’d like to encourage you to come down to see what all the fuss is about and to lend your hand and voices to cheer on these athletes – some of whom have traveled from around the world to compete.

More information about the HOCR is available here

US Open 2015

Serena WillisamsThe 2015 US Open starts today.  New York City will be awash with the best tennis players in the world, but nobody will have more eyes on them then Serena Williams.  At 34 years old she is not only the best in the world, but she is also on the verge of winning the calendar year Grand Slam: Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.

The last woman to win the calendar year grand slam was Stefi Graf in 1988 who accomplished this amazing feat when she was 19 years old. I’ll be cheering for Serena until I’m hoarse for the next two weeks.
