Enjoy the holiday weekend
If you live in the US, you probably are looking at a long holiday weekend and with temperatures in Boston predicted to hit the high 80s on Saturday, it could well be the first beach weekend of the summer.
However you celebrate this weekend, I hope you have fun. Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the internet.
BosGuy blog nominated for a Liebster Award
Last fall I started following a blogger in Brisbane, Australia who writes the blog, Living Gay Brisbane, but lately he’s found himself in the throws of a romance that I’d love to hear more about when he feels comfortable opening up about it. Earlier today I visited his blog and noticed that he had nominated BosGuy.com for an Australian blogging award called the Liebster Award.
The concept behind this award is to help bring exposure to different blogs – something I can really appreciate . The nomination process requires me to answer questions and nominate two bloggers. I will nominate Aussielicious and my husband & i, two well known blogs, and bloggers I respect and read.

Why did you start your blog? and where do you see it in the future?
I started BosGuy.com to better understand how to blog so I could apply that knowledge in my professional life and at the same time I thought I could capture life events to have something to look back upon. The blog quickly evolved into more than that, and now I use it primarily as a way to promote LGBTQ life here in Boston and in the summer in Provincetown and Ogunquit.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I echo Living Gay Brisbane’s advice. I would encourage my younger self to have come out earlier. However, growing up at the height of the AIDS epidemic in a small, close-minded community that perceived homosexuality as a perversion impacted me more than I’d care to admit and am proud that I was at least able to come to terms with who I was when I did despite my surroundings.
Who in your inner circle did you first show your blog to?
Long time readers won’t be surprised that I first showed my blog to my partner, Sergio, who was very supportive of the idea and remains my unofficial PR manager – consistently sharing my posts and telling people about BosGuy.com.
Love, sex or money? Which one would you choose?
I want all of it and don’t think you have to compromise. Love and sex are the opposite sides of the same coin – I can’t imagine having one without the other and fortunately for nearly 20 years, I’ve not had to compromise. With regards to money, my partner and I will never be wealthy as compared to the financial success many of our friends have attained, but we are more than able to pay our bills and that affords us an opportunity to enjoy our time together in a way many cannot. I know how lucky we are and try not to take it for granted.
What is your idea of the perfect first date?
Sorry, I couldn’t resist – it truly was the first thing that came to mind.
What are your non-negotiables when it comes to a boyfriend?
Someone who I can be honest with and who can help me be the best possible version of myself. I also need that person to allow me to be that same source of inspiration for them. Corny, I know but also true in my case.
The first time I realized I was in love?
I realized my feelings for Sergio went deeper than anyone I’d previously met after we had an argument, while we were traveling in Brazil. In previous situations that discord would have resulted in me walking away, but despite my frustration it didn’t even cross my mind. The moment that realization sunk in – it was a game changer.
Celebrity crush?
If Chris Hemsworth or Lenny Kravitz ever wanted to come over and hang out for some Netflix & chill, I think I could clear my calendar to make that happen.

Millennials are changing America (for the better)
The Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program has released a new report, The Millennial Generation: A Demographic Bridge to America’s Diverse Future. In it they examine how this generation (75 million strong) now a quarter of the entire U.S. population is changing. For those who like to complain about this generation, think about this: Millennials are more likely to be multi-racial, more racially diverse and more likely to identify as LGBTQ. Just by virtue of who they are, they can / will accelerate greater acceptance. Below you can see how Millennials are changing the make up of cities from coast to coast.
An interesting side note published by GLAAD in 2017 found 20% of 18-34 year olds identified as LGBTQ. More information about that here.
The Millennial population of Boston accounts for 24.6% of the total population, but places like Provo, UT (30.40%), Austin, TX (27.20%) and San Diego, CA (27%) have even larger percentages of their population identifying as Millennials. What to do this weekend
This weekend at the Kendall Tom of Finland Biopic opens in Boston, the OutRyders head to Cannon Mountain for some fun on the slopes and there are a number of dance parties including Excess: Yule Ball, Boyfriends and Bears, Cubs and Toys! Oh My Toy Drive.
Also tickets remain for two of Boston’s naughtiest holiday theater traditions The Slutcracker and The Gold Dust Orphans holiday show, Whatever Happened to Baby Jesus and don’t forget BELIEVE! Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Holiday Concert with performances through the weekend.

Adios Cancun
Sergio and I (along with our friends) have to say adios to Cancun today and brace ourselves for the frigid temperatures in Boston. The image shown above was taken by our friend, Alex, who I have included a photograph of below. I think his picture taken earlier in the week shows how beautiful it is here.
The excuse for coming to Cancun was to celebrate a friend’s birthday for a few days. Our time here passed quickly and was spent lounging in the sun. The highlight for me was on Friday when we rented a boat and crew to take us out into the ocean for snorkeling and to a sandbar where we could enjoy the spectacular colors of the Caribbean. I’ll definitely miss all the sun and warm weather, but it is time to go home now.
My friend Alex really enjoyed the day on the boat as well.

Halloween season in New England: Haunted Houses and attractions in Salem
Tis the season to scare the crap out of oneself. While I’m no expert on this sort of thing,I’ve done some digging to share with you information about haunted houses in the area you can visit. I’ve not attended any of these locations so share your comments to help others pick and choose the best haunted house.
Barrett’s Haunted Mansion is south of Boston in Abbington, MA. Oct 17 and 24th they will host their special Darkness Unleashed, which requires advance ticket purchase. On Sundays and Thursdays they have offer at $5 off coupon on their website. For more information be sure to visit their website.

Wicked After Dark – Thursday, June 29th
Community Servings and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS are hosting a one-night-only cabaret called WICKED AFTER DARK.
This one-night-only cabaret one woman show by WICKED cast member, Tregoney Shepherd & musical accompaniment by WICKED Musical Director/Conductor, Dan Micciche will take place in the Napoleon Room at Club Cafe on Thursday, June 29th.
