riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. Leave your guess in the comment section.

This week’s riddle: I may sound quite expensive, but I’m actually a very affordable pet. What am I?

I’ll approve responses later in the day to allow people to respond without seeing any spoilers.

Vintage gay

I’m going to guess that this was taken in the 1980s, but I haven’t anything to confirm that suspicion, and I am curious when you think this intimate moment between these two men may have been captured?

Red White and Royal Blue on Prime starting August 11

Red White & Royal Blue is a gay romance novel written by Casey McQuiston in 2019. When I reviewed the book in 2020, I described it as “a lighthearted beach novel with a scripted storyline that was as unrealistic as it was humorous with ridiculous scenarios playing out page after page”.

Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine portray the unlikely couple, and they are supported by a cast with some big names including Uma Thurman and Stephen Frye. I’m a sucker for RomComs and I enjoyed the book for what it was – an entertaining distraction and hope the movie will be as enjoyable to watch as the novel by McQuiston was to read.

Do you plan to watch Red White & Royal Blue when it is available on Prime later this month?

Ingenue Drag Pageantry – Applications due August 18

Boston drag performer, Missy Steak is teaming up with Boston Gaymers, a local LGBTQ+ social group for gamers to host The Big Mx Steak pageant, which will take place on September 7th.

The pageant is looking for 5 contestants who would like to share their drag debut on stage at Club Cafe to compete for the title of Big Mx Steak. Contestants will participate in a Q&A in Swimsuits, a talent show, and a lipsync smackdown. This pageant will be unlike any you’ve ever seen; where a mess can be success and perfection is out of the question. Make the best of your mistakes and channel your inner drag queen. To participate, your application must be submitted by Friday, August 18th.
