Vintage gay

Thanks to longtime reader and frequent commenter, Angel from Asturias, Spain for sharing this photo. I was struck by how intimately all four are posing with hands on cheeks and face, and in particular the two up front clasping hands with heads touching.

Reminder: 2023 Shakespeare on the Common starts this week

One of my favorite summer traditions in Boston is attending one of the free performances by the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) on the Boston Common.

This year’s play, Macbeth, is one of Shakespeare’s better-known tragedies, but if you’re unsure what the story is about visit the CSC website for a brief overview. While I recognize Shakespeare can be difficult to read, watching the CSC production brings the bard’s words to life so even if the language can sound foreign, it is easier to understand what is happening.

Enjoy an evening outside with friends or a date with someone special. We typically pack wine and charcuterie (you can get what you need at the nearby Roche Bros in Downtown Crossing but I like to make and pack it at home). While public drinking is a no-no, as long as you are discreet, nobody will bother you.

While the performances remain free, due to the popularity of these performances, advanced registration is strongly recommended for ease of arrival and priority access to seating. You can bring your own blankets and chairs. You can also rent chairs online in advance or on-site for $10. All shows start at 8PM with the exception of August 5th which starts at 6PM.

For more information about the programming or the CSC, visit the Commonwealth Shakespeare Co. website.

Scruffy Sunday

He looks quite peaceful but I could never sleep on my stomach. Do you sleep on your stomach, back, or side?

Saturday morning coffee

For those of you who like a side of beef with your morning coffee.

Furry Friday

I follow this real estate broker from Chicago on Twitter (his handle is @This_Isnt_Greg). Give him a follow if you like. I think his cub-ish good looks make for a great Furry Friday post during Ptown’s Bear Week, which officially concludes tomorrow.

Past Furry Friday

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. Leave your guess in the comment section.

This week’s riddle was first shared earlier this year on the NPR show Sunday Puzzle. Riddles from this show can be tough so don’t get discouraged, these are definitely harder than usual. If you need help, pull in a friend or two and give it a try. Much thanks to Jim Francis from Kirkland, Washington for the riddle.

This week’s riddle: Take this equation: 14 + 116 + 68 = 47. Clearly, this doesn’t work mathematically, but it does work in a non-mathematical way. Please explain.

I’ll approve responses later in the day to allow people to respond without seeing any spoilers.

Vintage gay

It can be a challenge to date a photo when the men are au natural (so to speak) but I’m going to guess this was taken in the 1980s. Can anyone else discern when this photo of campers in the buff may have been taken?

Midnight Cowboy (4K restored) at The Coolidge

Looking for something to do and want to get out of the house? The Coolidge Theater in Brookline is playing Midnight Cowboy. The film starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman was both a critical and commercial success when it first came out in 1969. Its “homosexual frame of reference” contributed to its X-rating, making it the first film with such a rating to receive the best picture Oscar.

Showtimes run thru Wednesday, July 19th playing daily with the exception of Monday, July 17th. For more information about showtimes or to purchase tickets visit their website, Coolidge Corner, Midnight Cowboy.
